Rahul promises central status to Kumaon Varsity

By OUR STAFF REPORTER PITHORAGARH, 10 May: Addressing a public meeting in Pithoragarh in favour of Congress candidate Pradeep Tamta at the Dev Singh Maidan here, today, Rahul Gandhi promised to take railway lines into the hills in order to promote tourism, if the Congress was voted to power. He also promised the status of Central University to Kumaun University. He raised the issue of one rank one pension for the armed forces personnel. He further said that the Bharatiya Janata Party worked for a few people and raised sentimental issues for their benefit. On the other hand, the Congress worked for the comman man, farmers, youths and working class. He said that, if the BJP cames to power, then only half of India would be shining. Talking about the Uttarakhand Government, he said that Rs 1000 crores was sanctioned for Uttarakhand but the State Government was unable to utilise it. Speaking of the achievements of the Manmohan Singh Government, he said that 9 percent growth rate was a rare achievement. The Employment Guarantee Scheme and the Right To Information had helped people a lot. He asserted that Advani was wrong about Manmohan Singh being a weak Prime Minster. This had been proved by Manmohan Singh by tackling the Mumbai terror attack effectively. The Vajpayee Government, on the other hand, had failed to deal with the plane hijacking case and had released a number of terrorists. Talking about black money in Swiss banks, he asserted that the BJP had never raised this issue when it was in power. Rahul urged the people to vote for the Congress, considering its achievements.
