Nainital, 10 May: The former BJP President addressed an election rally at Bhimtal 24 kms from here on Sunday. It seemed that the aura of political leaders is no longer glowing. Merely a few hundred people gathered at the rally. Most of them were leaders and workers of the BJP. Criticising the economic policies of the Congress, Joshi said that the country had seen all time high inflation amid fears of deflation, now, which could be even more disastrous. But during the journey of inflation and feared deflation, the prices of essential commodities remained high and as a result the common man suffered the most. Remembering the sacrifice made by cop Mohan Lal Sharma of Delhi Police, he said that, to gain cheap popularity, leaders of some political parties were raising questions about why the Inspector was not wearing a bullet proof jacket when he encountered the terrorists? Could such allegations against a patriot like Sharma be justified, he asked the public. The attacker of the highest temple of democracy, Afzal was not being hanged, he lamented. His mercy petition was lying pending before the President for the last four years. He said that the mercy petition of the assailant of General Vaidya was decided within a week by the President and he was sent to the gallows because he belonged to a different religion. The main reason for the delay in the disposal of the mercy petition made by Afzal was vote-bank politics, he alleged. Despite the most irresponsible and inflammable statements made by Lalu Yadav on Varun Gandhi, the ‘weak’ Prime Minister of the country Dr Manmohan Singh could not take any action and, similarly, in the matter regarding AR Antulay, who had taken the Pakistan line on the Mumbai terrorist attack, nothing could be done, he said. Joshi appealed to the people to vote for Bachi Singh Rawat. He praised him for his truthfulness and simplicity. “I inspired Bachi Singh Rawat to join Jan Sangh and, later, the BJP and he has been my ministerial colleague,” he added.
