Truck transporting illicit liquor nabbed

Pauri, 7 May: The Excise Department impounded a truck near Khandusen today on the Pauri Devprayag road. The truck no UK 12-0102 was carrying 194 cartons of illicit liquor. The liquor was packed in plastic bottles. It is assessed to be worth Rs 5 lakhs. A sum of Rs 1 lakh in cash has also been seized from the truck. According to Rajendra, the Excise Inspector in Pauri, three number plates with different numbers were also found in the truck. As Inspector Rajendra put it, a Safari no. H.R. 49B 770 was detected circling the truck in suspicious circumstances. It was also seized but only after four rounds were fired in the air. The truck driver Dharam Singh, resident of Gauchar, Labh Chand, Raj Kumar Gupta, resident of Kalka and Sandeep Kumar of Kiri Chamnou have been placed under arrest and intensive interrogation is in progress. This is the third major haul in less than two years of Inspector Rajendra’s tenure. It is comforting to know that the young officer is alive to his duties and is watchful.
