Sewer laying operations cut BSNL lines
Friday, 30.07.2010, 12:04pm (GMT+5.5)

By Sunil Sonkar
Mussoorie, 29 July:
The lines of the BSNL network were damaged in Kincraig area by digging operations conducted to lay sewer lines. These problems are taking place on almost a daily basis. BSNL services to over a dozen places were disrupted for this reason on Wednesday.
According to the BSNL SDO, Ganesh Kothari, notices would be sent to the department concerned for compensation. The sewer lines are being laid by the Jal Nigam. While digging, it is failing to ensure that the telephone cables are not affected. On Wednesday, places like Woodstock School area, Dhanaulti, Thatyud, Kanatal, Thatyud and Chamba Road had services totally disconnected. In the Woodstock School area, alone, dozens of persons with broadband connections and hundreds with telephone connections were rendered without connectivity.
Kothari alleged that those conducting the digging operations not only cut the lines, they did not even bother to inform BSNL. According to him, the damage to BSNL amounted to something near Rs 3 lakhs. The Jal Nigam would be asked to pay for the damages.
