Pant seeks inquiry into Pande’s killing

Pithoragarh, 7 July: Cabinet Minister Prakash Pant has sent a memorandum to the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram for a high level inquiry into Hem Chandra Pande's alleged fake encounter in Adilabad of Andhra Pradesh by the state police. The Working Journalists’ Association also held a meeting, today, and said the incident was a serious matter. Cabinet Minister Pant asked for compensation to be provided to the family members of the freelance journalist Hem Chandra Pande. Pant said that there was deep anger among people across the border district regarding the fake encounter. He said that the people were appealing to him obtain compensation for Pande's family. He also demanded a high level inquiry in the matter. The Working Journalists’ Association also hold a meeting chaired by the District President, Jagat Martoliya, and General Secretary Jagdish Kalauni. The Association expressed deep sorrow at the death of freelance journalist Hem Chandra Pande. The Association also sent a memorandum to the President of India, Prime Minister and Governors of Andhra Pradesh and Uttarakhand on the occasion and demanded an inquiry into the killing.
