Bisht suspends 5 teachers of Nainital school

By Bimal Kumar Pande Nainital, 20 June: The Minister of State for Education Govind Singh Bisht has suspended five teachers of the Shahid Major Rajesh Adhikari Inter College, here, in the wake of the death of Amit Pande, a student of 9th standard that took place during school hours and subsequent violent clashes among teachers. It may be recalled that, on Friday, Amit Pande had died when he slipped into a gorge at around noon during school timings. Later, two groups of teachers clashed violently in the school premises in the presence of Joint Director, Education, Dr Kusum Pant and District Education Officer Jeevan Singh Hyanki. Those who have been suspended on charges of negligence and rude behavior included Deepa Mehta, JS Bhandari, BK Rai, Dharam Singh Bhakuni and Dhananjay Pande. The Minister has expressed grief at the death of the student and affirmed that an impartial inquiry would be conducted into the matter and the guilty would not be spared. Every effort would be made to avoid repetition of such incidents, he added.
