Thursday, 30.04.2009, 11:22am (GMT+5.5)

By AJAY RAMOLA
MUSSORIE, 29 Apr:
An unabated forest fire has engulfed Kempty Forest range since the last one week. The situation became worse when the fire in the forest near the Tibetan Homes Foundation reached near the Girls Hostel, endangering the life of students residing there.
The forest comes under the purview of the Rajaji National Park area. The fire department officials reached the site to quell the fire and after a struggle could control it after 5 hours.
The area of Binog hill, Kempty and Bungalow Ki Kandi are covered with incessant smoke due to these forest fires. The THF students also assisted the fire officials in extinguish the fire. The forest officials are of the view that villagers are solely responsible for these fires, as they set them in the hope of new fodder.
