Jeep carrying beef overturns, raises hackles of Shiv Sainiks
Wednesday, 13.05.2009, 03:05pm

By PRASHANT P SINGH
SAHARANPUR, 12 May:
With a beef-carrying Mahendra jeep turning turtle near Sherman Mill, hundreds of Shiv Sainik demonstrated at the cops’ inability to curb the ‘ubiquitous’ menace of cow slaughter in the hinterland of Gangoh. The police at Gangoh Police Station filed a case against the driver and his accomplices, who managed to abscond from the scene.
According to sources, a Mahindra Max was transporting beef in the dead of night. Near Sherman Mill, the vehicle turned turtle after breaking its axle. This caused large chunks of meat to spill on to the road. Soon, hundreds of Shiv Sainiks arrived on the scene, while the driver of the vehicle managed to abscond. Inspector Farhan Singh reached the spot and called a veterinary doctor to ascertain whether the meat was of buffalos or cows. After the doctor prima-facie confirmed the meat as that of cows, Shiv Sainiks began a demonstration over the cops’ inability to place a blanket ban on burgeoning beef trade in the hinterland of Gangoh. They argued that cows were illicitly transported through the Lakhnauti-border as it had no police checkpoints and added that the cows were slaughtered there.
