Talibanisation of Hindutva Politics

By Dr Dhirendra Sharma Talibanisation of our politics is the most reprehensible development in recent decades. Following Godhra and Gujarat, Atlaji had asked Narendra Modi to uphold Raj-Dharma and equally defend civil rights of all citizens irrespective of race, region or religion. Our Republic will not be governed by Sharia laws or by narrow Hindutva politics. If the Taliban have destroyed girls’ schools, the Hindutva votaries have attacked our girls while at the same time raising slogans of “Jai Sri Ram”. The have also burned churches. Last week, the media reported that Swami Yatindranand Giri wants to fight the Lok Sabha Election from Haridwar. A Sanyasi ‘s constituency is not limited to any one town, city, country or people. The Swami’s electoral candidacy violates Hindu philosophy and cultural norms. If he is really a dikshit or avowed sanyasin, he cannot provide the Election Commission a home address and details of his moveable and immovable properties. I am not sure of his knowledge of Indian philosophy but, in his earlier life, he is reported to have been an RSS active member. In the 21st century, space age knowledge of world history, economics and science policy are essentials for governance of a modern republic. Our Swami Maharaj is expected to guide lowly unscrupulous politicians on the right path of Raj Dharma. Is he justified or qualified to join those whom he is supposed to guide. If the Maharaj ji joins the mi is parivrajaka – wanderer with no fixed home as the entire world is his space for spiritual upliftment of humanity he would dishonour the saffron Lotus sheen. Because “ kajar-ki-kothari main kaso he sayano jai. Kajar-ki ek leekh lagi hai bhai lagi hai.”
