By OUR STAFF REPORTER DEHRADUN, 29 July: “The efficiency of a Police Department lies in its ability to solve problems using minimal force,” said DGP Jyoti Swaroop Pandey at his first press conference held at the Police Headquarters, today, after taking over as the Chief of the state’s police. DGP Pandey said that the police was given the right to use force, but under limitations. As such, he believed in using minimal force in solving problems. He also laid emphasis on the police according respect to Human Rights. He said that it was the prime duty of the police to check crime and maintain Law and Order. “However, while doing so, it should ensure that Human Rights are not violated,” he asserted, while adding that the rights of even an accused person had to be respected. When asked about the police being thrashed of late in the state capital, DGP said that job of the police was to resolve the problems and criminal cases, and confrontations with criminals or even with general public were but natural. “Whatever the circumstances, the police have to and will continue to perform their duty even though they face humiliation sometimes,” he said. He said in this context that everybody had the right to self-defence.
